Palm Beach was established by Henry Morrison Flagler, the founder of Standard Oil in the late 1800s.  Mr. Flagler made Palm Beach, an Atlantic coast barrier island, accessible via his Florida East Coast Railway.  The nucleus of the community was established by Henry Flagler’s two luxury resort hotels, the Royal Poinciana Hotel and The Breakers Hotel.  West Palm Beach was built across the Intracoastal from Palm Beach by Mr. Flagler as a service town for Palm Beach.

In 1902,  Henry Flagler built a Beaux-Arts mansion, Whitehall, and helped establish the Palm Beach winter “season” by constant entertaining.  Whitehall is now The Flagler Museum.  The Town of Palm Beach was incorporated on April 17, 1911.

Palm Beach is the easternmost town in Florida and exists on a 16-mile long barrier island.  As of 2004, the year round population of Palm Beach was 9,860, with an estimated seasonal population of 30,000.

Palm Beach is today a fully developed community, world-renowned for its extraordinary beauty, quality of life, and small town character.  Come see why Palm Beach is one of the most popular destinations in the world.
